Beer Garden

Yesterday, I met some people from New Zealand in my hostel and they invited me to go to a beer garden last night. The beer garden was huge and crowded. I decided that--similar to the japanese onsen--it must play a significant role in defining german (or in the case of the onsen japanese) culture. I am sure that the US has some similar things somewhere, but I have never seen one. I think that the beer garden encourages a different type of social interaction than a traditional bar.

Anyway, I need to get out of this internet cafe. I will go to the Englischer Garden at Mumu's suggestion, and then continue to walk around other parts of the city. I may take a brewery tour tonight!

Hey Kyle,

How was the Englischer Garten? It's a huge park, isn't it? This park is the biggest park in the world(they say), which exists inside of the city! "Chinesicher Turm" (Beer garden) in the Englischer Garden has 7,000 places to sit... Hope the weather is nice and you also could listen to the traditional music at the beer garden.
There are also some places to see in the city. There is the biggest device clock in Germany on the "New city hall" (Neues Rathaus). It could be something to watch.(all tourits are waiting there to watch it)
You can try cheese, honey, bread etc. at "Viktualienmarkt"(market) near by Marienplatz. It's nice to experience a german market, but don't buy much because it's very expensive place. There is also a small beer garden at the market and you can see many local people, they drink beer from the morning 'till the evening everyday(you can tell it from their stomachs) and they also wear traditional costume, which could be interesting for you.
And you can just go and get inside to take a look at "HofbrÀuhaus", close to Marienplatz. This is the most famous beer hall in Munich(especially for tourists), because it's a old court beer hall. There you can also see many local people dressed in traditional costume and drinking beer...
Don't forget to taste a real german "Brezel (or Brezen)"(Prezel in English)! Brezel with butter or cheese tastes very good too;)
Enjoy!

Wish I was there to buy you one of those full bodied german beers! I'll owe you one when you get back.
